Awards

Races are chip timed and all awards are based on gun time. That is, the time from when we say "GO!" to when you cross the finish line. Your chip time (the time from when you cross the start line to when you finish) may be available for your reference, but it will not be used for any scoring or awards.

Finisher Medals: Finisher medals will be given out at each race to each finisher. No finisher medals will be given after or before/after race day: you must finish the race on race day to earn one.

Overall Awards: At each of the three races, overall awards for Top 3 Male/Female are given out for both distances based on gun time.

Series Scoring: Scoring for the short courses and long courses are done separately. Scoring for age groups and overall awards are done separately. At each of the three races, first place gets 1000 points, second place gets 999 points, third place gets 998 points, etc. Then, the points are added up. Whoever has the most points at the end of the third race wins the series. For example, if you are the 8th person to finish the 1st race's short course, you will get 993 points for that race. Then, if you are the 3rd person to finish the 2nd race's short course, you will get 998 points for that race. Finally, if you are the 5th person to finish the 3rd race's short course, you will get 996 points for that race. Your total points will be 993+998+996=2987.

Series Age Group Awards: Age group awards are given only after the third race. At the end of the series (after the 3rd race), medals for top 3 male/female in the series are given out for both distances, AND medals for top 3 male/female in each age group are given out for both distances. Age groups are: 0-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, 90-99, 100+

FAQ

What if two (or more) people have the same number of points?
The tie breaker is raw time. We will add up the total time for each race. Whoever has the fastest total time wins.

What if I am not able to make a race?

If you miss a race, then you will earn zero points for that race. In all cases, someone who ran all three races will be scored ahead of someone who runs only two of the races. Someone who runs two of the races will be ahead of someone who runs only one of the races.

Can someone win both the overall series award and also get an age group award?

No: if you are given an overall series award, you are not eligible for an age group award. This only applies to the series awards: you can get both a race overall award and a series age group award.

Does this mean that if I am 45, then I am competing with the 20-year-olds?

For the overall series awards: yes, you are. For age group awards: no. You are only competing with those in your age group. Points are calculated separately for overall and each age group.

Can I change my distance?

Yes, just please let us know! However, in terms of scoring, your points will be treated as if you didn't run the other race at all. For example, if you run Race 1 Long, Race 2 Short, Race 3 Long, you will be given zero points for race 2.

Can I get my finisher medal if I don't run the race?
No. Finisher medals will only be given out at the finish line on the day of the race. There is no virtual option for this event.

Can I walk the race?
Yes! This race welcomes runners and walkers alike. Be sure to pay attention to who is coming up from behind / in front so that you can give way to those needing to pass.

Can I bring a pet?
We love running with our dogs, but a trail race on narrow trails with hundreds of runners is not a safe place to bring pets. In addition, our event insurance does not allow pets on the course at SARL events.

Can I bring a stroller?
This course has rocky climbs and narrow single-track dirt trails. Strollers are no appropriate for this event.
